An established actor, fashion icon, and an incredible singer-songwriter — that is how one could describe the one and only Billy Porter. Known for his theatrics, Porter made his start by winning an American talent show called "Star Search" in 1992. His victory in the famous show gave him the opportunity to be part of the 1994 Broadway revival of the hit musical "Grease." His portrayal of Teen Angel was so well-received and foreshadowed the incredible career he would have on Broadway in the years to come.
Over the years, Porter was able to perform in numerous major theatre productions, including Miss Saigon, Dreamgirls, Jesus Christ Superstar, Merchant of Venice, and Kinky Boots. The latter is the most notable of his performances, wherein he played a drag queen named Lola. Porter portrayed the iconic character well, enabling him to win a Tony for Best Actor in 2013.
Porter is also active in film and television, playing various characters in several movies and TV series.
